50's Hairstyles

Hair Practical

Looking at 50's hairstyles we created a hairstyle with a similar look but with a modern twist.

-          Section off ear to ear and split the bottom sections into 2
-          You want to make 4 tongued upward sections
-          Bare in  mind the direction of the curling tongue
-          From ear to ear all the way around pin up creating your ‘brick work’ stopping harsh lines in the hairstyle
-          With the top section Work from top to bottom rolling downwards with heated rollers
-          Create your side parting and make sure your rollers go opposite ways to create a strong parting line
-          If the client has a fringe pull it out to the side
-          Take rollers out (don’t drag them out – to maintain shape creating volume) When completely cool and roll into curl and pin (and spray if necessary)
-          Pin everything rolled up away and concentrate on tongued rolls
-          If the client has limp hair backcomb the ends slightly to avoid separation in the hair
-          Pin at the top of the ‘victory roll’ and join roll together – close the ends
Kirby grips anchor and hold weight of the hair
Finishing pins hide the hair.
Do not pin on top as it will flatten the hair.
With the rollers top section start with the side with less hair
Backcomb the front section to blend the roller lines together
Use a dressing out comb to hide any gaps
Lift front section up and backcomb for volume
