PROJECT EVALUATION

There are many aspects of this project that I really enjoyed. It was interesting focusing on basic natural makeup skills such as bases and eye shapes, re capping what we should already know. This meant I was a lot more confident when it came to shooting the final looks as these had been practised many times. We had a lot of theory and practical lessons with both hair and make up which helped us to incorporate the different looks into our final images. I am happy with my final looks  but some more than others. I feel that the choice of model is very important and this reflected in my work as being let down meant I couldn’t achieve the final look I had hoped for particularly with the Smokey eye look. I experimented with studio and natural lighting as I wanted to see which looked more appropriate to the Revlon advertisements I had looked at and this meant a variation of images in the end. I would have liked to have been more experimental with the hair in some of my final looks as I learnt a lot of new hairstyles with this project. I developed my research by looking at the brand in depth and seeing which products were favourites in the industry. The MAC and illamasqua demonstrations were really useful as we were given lots of advice and tips for the future. My timed assessment went really well and I am very happy with the final images.

Strong eye, brow and lashes look

Testing

I practised a metallic look and photographed it using natural light as I thought this would effectively show the colours and effect.

I liked the makeup but I think it would look better shot in the studio with better lighting to show the metallic colours more accurately.

Timed Assesment

Inspiration

These Illamasqua images I found were my original inspiration for my timed assesment ideas. I wanted to create something similar that was colourful and metallic still with a very beautiful effect.

Research

Complimentary and Contrasting

Thinking of colour theory and the colour wheel this image works because of the colours used and the dramatic effect it has on pale skin and red hair.

More Hair

I practised a curled effect hairstyle and prepared my model head by washing and blow drying before hand.

Ideas

I created storyboards and face charts / hair sketches for each of my natural looks.

Textured Hairstyle

Using crimping and scrunching to create texture we’re going to use it in a hairstyle with accessories.
-          Scrunch the hair
-          Sweep it off the face and If you want a fringe take it out before)
-          Top section divide up to temples and let the side bits hang down (they can later be pulled round into the hairstyle or curled)
-          Twist up – centre of the head
-          Use 2 Kirby grips (one on either side)
-          If using fabric thread it through the loop in the hair now
-          Use necklaces chains etc. to dangle around the hairstyle

-          Vaseline is a good substitute for hair glue for gems etc.

Strong Lip

Mirijana gave us a demonstration of a makeup look focusing on strong lips, eyes and brows.

This was the makeup look she demonstrated for us.
